Quest Information

The objective of the quest Fallen Angel is to kill Izual in the plains of Despair, the second area in Hell. Tyrael tells you that Izual was captured by hell and subsequently imprisoned within a demon. Tyrael wants you to free Izual from that prison.

The quest is quite straightforward, and upon killing Izual, the player is given a speech revealing that Izual was not corrupted against his will, but actually helped Hell devise their own exile into Sanctuary through the Soulstones.

Upon returning to Tyrael, the player is rewarded with 2 skill points.

Physical Appearance

Ingame, Izual is encountered as a demon similarly looking to a Megademon with golden armor. Upon killing him however, his spirit leaves the dead demon body, and it resembles that of Tyrael in shape, although incorporeal.

Powers and Abilities

Izual is quite tough, having the most Hit Points of all monsters in the game excluding the Act Bosses and their Uber versions. Izual lacks the offensive power of the more powerful Great Evils, as he only has two attacks.

  • Melee attack that has a chance to slow the player.
  • Frost Nova, similar to the Sorceress skill.

Plot implications

Upon his death, Izual gives the player a speech unveiling a secret plot the Three had masterminded in order to finally defeat Heaven.

"Tyrael was a fool to have trusted me! You see, it was I who told Diablo and his Brothers about the Soulstones and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world. The plan we set in motion so long ago cannot be stopped by any mortal agency. Hell, itself, is poised to spill forth into your world like a tidal wave of blood and nightmares. You and all your kind... are doomed. "

He clearly mentions the Three having masterminded their own exile, which undoubtedly refers to the banishment the other four Lesser Evils carried out. This speech however implies that there was never any tensions within the ranks of Hell, and that it has all been a ploy to fool both Sanctuary and Heaven. This would, by extension, also mean that the civil war that is said to be raging between Azmodan and Belial has been nothing but a ruse.
