Lightning is one of the six damage types in Diablo II, and one of the four elemental ones. It is probably the most feared of all forms of attack.

Lightning has an incredible range of damage, always with one as it's minimum. However, it's maximum is truly vast, often going into the hundreds or even thousands.

The Sorceress has a whole skill tree devoted to lightning based attacks.

Lightning's main threat, however, is Unique Monsters with the lightning enchanted modifier. Each time they are hit with an attack, they fire out multiple charged bolts which do high damage and can kill a player quite easily.
